In 1988, Angelo decided to turn sailing into his full-time profession, leaving the Olympic classes and dedicating himself to offshore races, as skipper. Gino trained Angelo in sailing on several classes: Flying Junior, 420, Alpa S, Flying Dutchman and finally on the Olympic class Finn where, at the age of only sixteen, Angelo joined the Italian national team. “Angelo Costa: a full life in sailing sail maker, yachtsman and racing sailor in many olympic classes and on off shore boats as well”.Īngelo’s sailing began at Forte dei Marmi at the age of 8 following in the footsteps of his father’s Gino Costa, six times Italian champion in the Alpa “S” class.
